We recently discovered that an unauthorized third party was able to gain access to our systems. We immediately shut down the access. We have partnered with cybersecurity experts to investigate, secure our systems, and strengthen our platform.
What we found: The unauthorized party used their access to reach other internal systems and accessed certain user information. For most accounts, this involved basic account information. For a smaller number of accounts, more sensitive information was involved.
What we have done: We identified and closed the vulnerability, engaged outside forensic and cybersecurity experts, and notified law enforcement and the relevant data protection authorities.
We also took a number of immediate precautionary steps across our systems, including temporarily pausing uploads. Uploads are returning in phases, starting this week.
We are beginning direct notifications to impacted users this week. Those notices come from Epiq, our notification provider, on our behalf.
What we recommend in the meantime:
- Out of caution, please reset your password for your Scribd, Slideshare, Everand, and Fable accounts.
- Be cautious of any message claiming to be from Scribd, Everand, Slideshare, or Fable that asks for your password or personal information. We will never ask for that information by email, text, or phone.
- Verify any communication from us by checking this page directly rather than clicking an unverified link. We will keep this page updated as we're able to share more.
