Printing documents

  • Updated

Sometimes, a physical copy is the best way to engage with a document. When uploaders make their documents available for download on Scribd, they also enable printing, giving you access to their work in yet another format.

What can be printed?

You can print any document that is available for direct download to your device.

You can print:

  • Documents that the uploader has made available for download

You cannot print:

  • Documents that the uploader has restricted from download
  • Any content accessed through the Everand app or website

How to check if a document can be downloaded

If a document is available for download, you’ll see a “Download” button below its description on the Scribd website. If the button is missing, the document is not available for direct download and cannot be printed.

Downloading and printing a document

Some documents require an active subscription to download. If needed, Scribd will check your account and request payment before granting access. During a free trial, limits may apply to the number of downloads you can access.

The download and print process varies by device—follow the steps below for your setup.

Using a desktop web browser

  1. Sign in to your Scribd account on the website.
  2. Open the document you want to download.
  3. Click “Download” below the document’s description.
  4. Select a file format from the drop-down menu (if applicable).
  5. Click “Download document.”
  6. A banner will confirm “Your download has started.”
  7. Locate the downloaded file on your computer and open it in your preferred reader software.
  8. Print the document (refer to your reader software’s guide for specific printing instructions).

Using a mobile web browser

Downloading directly to a mobile device must be done via the Scribd website—documents cannot be downloaded directly through the Scribd app.

  1. Sign in to your Scribd account on the website using a mobile browser.
  2. Open the document you want to download.
  3. Tap “Download” below the document’s description.
  4. Select a file format from the drop-down menu (if applicable).

The next steps depend on your device’s operating system:
