Billing surprises are frustrating. Let's figure out what's going on.
I'm being charged the wrong amount
A few things can cause your bill to look different than expected:
- You recently changed plans. If you upgraded, your payment prorates for the remainder of the billing cycle — so your first charge on the new plan will be the difference between what you already paid and the new plan price. Downgrades take effect at your next billing date, so you won't see the new price until then.
- Tax was added. Depending on your location, tax may be included in your charge. Check your payment history for a breakdown.
- Your free trial ended. If your trial just converted to a paid subscription, the first charge will be the full plan price.
- A promotion expired. If you were on a discounted rate, your subscription will renew at the regular price once the promotion ends.
Check your payment history in your account settings for a detailed breakdown of each charge. If something still doesn't add up, start a conversation with our virtual assistant.
I'm being charged after I canceled
We will never charge you after your subscription has been successfully canceled. If you're seeing a charge after you thought you canceled, it usually means the cancellation didn't fully go through. This is one of the most common billing questions we get, and it almost always comes down to where you originally subscribed.
If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play: Canceling on the Everand website doesn't stop those charges. You need to cancel directly through the platform you subscribed with. Here's how:
- App Store: Go to Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > find Everand (or Scribd) > Cancel Subscription. For more details, visit Apple support.
- Google Play: Open the Google Play app > Profile icon > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions > find Everand (or Scribd) > Cancel subscription. For more details, visit Google Play support.
If you subscribed on the web and still see charges: Double-check that your cancellation went through. Sign in to the Everand website, go to your account settings, and look at the Subscription section. If it still shows an active subscription, the cancellation may not have completed. If it shows canceled and you're still seeing charges, contact us through our virtual assistant and we'll investigate and make it right.
I have duplicate subscriptions
This happens more than you'd think, usually when someone subscribes through the Everand website and also through the App Store or Google Play without realizing it.
How to check: Look at your payment history on the Everand website and also check your App Store or Google Play subscriptions. If you see active subscriptions in more than one place, you have duplicates.
How to fix it: Decide which subscription you want to keep, then cancel the other through the platform where it was purchased (Everand account settings for web, Apple Settings for App Store, Google Play app for Google Play). You'll only have access to the features of whichever subscription remains active.
If you've been double-charged and the duplicate was unintentional, start a conversation with our virtual assistant and we'll look into it.
Frequently asked questions
Q: I canceled but I'm still getting charged. What's going on?
A: Check whether you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play — canceling on Everand's website doesn't stop charges from those platforms. See the steps above to cancel through the right one. If you've already done that and charges continue, our virtual assistant can investigate.
Q: How do I figure out why my bill changed?
A: Your payment history in account settings breaks down each charge with dates and amounts. That's the fastest way to spot what changed — whether it's a plan upgrade, trial conversion, or expired promotion.
Q: I'm seeing a charge from "Scribd, Inc." that I don't recognize.
A: Scribd, Inc. is the company behind Everand. See "Your billing history and invoices" for more details on matching charges to your account.
