Your SlideShare content settings and licensing

SlideShare allows you to customize the default settings for content you upload in a single convenient place: the “Content” tab in your Account Settings!

You can navigate to your Content tab through these steps:

  1. Sign in to your account on the SlideShare website
  2. Click on your profile icon in the top right corner
  3. From the drop-down menu, select “Account Settings”
  4. Click “Content” from the navigation bar at the top of the page

Here, you can choose a preferred language, assign a standard license, and give free download permission for all of your uploads. 

Setting a default preferred language

You can choose to have your uploads associated with a specific language by default when uploaded! This will ensure that others are able to easily find your uploads if they’re filtering their search results by language.

To select your preferred language:

  1. Sign in to your account on the SlideShare website
  2. Navigate to the “Content” tab in your Account Settings
  3. Select the drop-down next to “Preferred Language”
  4. Choose a language from the options listed
  5. Click the “Save” button 

Setting a language for an individual upload

You can set a language for an individual upload, even if it was uploaded under the your default preferred language:

  1. Sign in to your account on the SlideShare website
  2. Click on your profile icon in the top right corner
  3. Select “My Uploads” from the drop-down menu
  4. Click on “Edit” below the upload you'd like to change the license for, and then select “Edit” from the options displayed
  5. On the “Edit Details” tab, scroll down
  6. Choose your a language from the drop-down menu next to “Language”
  7. Click on the “Update” button

Setting a default license for your content

Your content is yours, even if you upload it to SlideShare. However, if you’d like to give permission for your uploads to be used by third parties, you can set a default Creative Commons license for uploads you make. For more information about Creative Commons, and to help determine the right choice for your work, click here.

By default, all content is set to All Rights Reserved unless you change it in your account.

To change the default license for all content you upload:

  1. Sign in to your account on the SlideShare website
  2. Navigate to the “Content” tab in your Account Settings
  3. Click on the drop-down menu located under “Default license for your content”
  4. Select the license you want to apply as a default for your uploads
  5. Click the ”Save” button

Setting a license for an individual upload

You can edit the license for an individual upload, even if it was uploaded under the default license you have set:

  1. Sign in to your account on the SlideShare website
  2. Click on your profile icon in the top right corner
  3. Select “My Uploads” from the drop-down menu
  4. Click on “Edit” below the upload you'd like to change the license for, and then select “Edit” from the options displayed
  5. On the “Edit Details” tab, scroll to the bottom of the page
  6. Click on the drop-down menu next to “Choose a license”
  7. Select your preferred license for your upload
  8. Click on the “Update” button to save your changes

Setting default reading and download permissions

You control how widely available you’d like your uploads to be, including if they can be read and downloaded for free! 

To set a default reading and download permission for your uploads:

  1. Sign in to your account on the SlideShare website
  2. Navigate to the “Content” tab in your Account Settings
  3. Check or Un-check the box next to “Allow users to read and download your slideshows without a subscription”, per your preference
  4. Click the “Save” button

Setting download permissions for an individual upload

You can edit the download permissions for an individual upload, even if it was uploaded under the default permission you have set:

  1. Sign in to your account on the SlideShare website
  2. Click on your profile icon in the top right corner
  3. Select “My Uploads” from the drop-down menu
  4. Click on “Edit” below the upload you'd like to change the license for, and then select “Edit” from the options displayed
  5. Click on the “Privacy Settings” tab at the top of the page
  6. Next to “Allow users” and “To Download?”, click on the radial option applicable
  7. Click on the “Update” button
