We have become aware of a deliberate attempt by a third party to use individual email addresses to create new Scribd accounts without these individuals’ knowledge. Scribd is in no way associated with, or condoning, this action. We value our readers and we’re dedicated to protecting our community and ensuring the integrity of our platform.
Our security team became aware of this issue because impacted individuals received an email from Scribd welcoming them to our service. We have identified the accounts associated with this action, and have deleted the relevant accounts and all related data as of January 13, 2021. There is no further action required and no one who is impacted by this incident will be charged for a subscription.
Based on our investigation to date, we are confident that all Scribd user information remains secure and protected. No personal information, such as user names, passwords, credit card, payment information, or reading activity logs, have been compromised as a result of this incident.
Security is always a priority for Scribd. Our community trusts us to provide safe access to content and secure their information. We take that responsibility seriously and have a team dedicated to addressing any concerns.
Additionally, we comply with applicable privacy and data laws and regulations, and have policies and technologies in place to protect our subscribers.
