Updating your payment method on the website

If you subscribed on the Scribd or Slideshare website, you can add or remove a card, or change which card we charge, without canceling your subscription.

  1. Sign in on the Scribd website. Slideshare subscriptions are managed here too.
  2. Select Your account.
  3. Scroll to Payment information.
  4. Next to Payment methods, select Update.
  5. Enter your new details, then select Save.

Adding a backup payment method

You can store up to three payment methods on your account. One is your preferred method, and that's the one we charge. The others are backups, so a failed renewal doesn't interrupt your subscription or your work.

If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play

Apple and Google hold your card, so that's where you can update it.

If you pay with Venmo or PayPal

Both hold your card and payment info on their side.

If you pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay

You can change your card through Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Fixing a payment that didn't go through

If your renewal payment doesn't go through, we place your subscription on hold until we can charge you. Update your payment details with the steps above to get it running again.

These are the most common reasons a payment fails:

  • Your card expired or was replaced with a new number.
  • The account doesn't have enough funds.
  • Your bank declined the charge. Your bank can tell you why.
  • Your billing details don't match what your bank has on file.
  • You used a prepaid or non-reloadable card.

Prepaid and non-reloadable cards won't work for a Scribd or Slideshare subscription, including store-bought Visa or Mastercard gift cards. See Payment methods we accept for the full list.

Changing to a different payment platform

Moving from the App Store to a card, or from PayPal to a card, moves your billing to a new platform. We can't do that on an active subscription. Cancel your subscription, then subscribe again with the new method.

Resubscribing puts you on current plans and pricing, so your locked-in price or plan may change. If you only need a different card behind PayPal or Venmo, update it on that platform instead, and your plan stays as-is.
