How do I sign up for the Essential Student Bundle?

If you’re a new subscriber, head on over to our Essential Student Bundle sign up page here: and click on the “Sign Up Now” button. You’ll be taken right to the first step of the verification process. Once you see that banner, your new Scribd membership is all set and you’re ready to enjoy everything that a Scribd membership has to offer! Your New York Times promo code will be sent via email from - if you don’t receive the promo code email, double-check that it didn’t get caught by your email’s spam filters and of course feel free to reach out to our support team at if you need further assistance!

What’s included in the Essential Student Bundle?

Our Essential Student Bundle includes 4 months of NYT digital and a discounted price for your Scribd premium membership at $4.99 USD per month (compared to our regular subscription plan of $8.99 USD)! We'll include 30 days of free membership time to your Scribd account as well, and after the 4 months are up your NYT digital subscription will self-cancel.

Am I eligible for the student discount? Who can sign up?

This offer is only valid for full-time undergraduate and graduate college students at accredited universities in the US. We use SheerID to verify your student status, and only new subscribers to both Scribd and The New York Times are eligible for the student bundle discount.

If you are a current subscriber to Scribd, you will not be eligible for the student discount.

My student discount verification failed, help!

Oh no! If your student status verification failed, this could be for a number of reasons such as:

  • The document's quality was unreadable
  • The document did not show your full and legal name
  • The document shows a name different from the one you were using to verify under this offer

You do have the option to reapply, though! For abuse-prevention reasons, we only allow a limited number of retries so please take care to be sure that your document is clearly visible, that your registration information is correct, and that any confidential information has been edited out or blacked out of the document.

If you have any further trouble, you can visit SheerID's FAQ page for assistance to verify your status as a student and ensure that you receive your offer.

Are international students eligible for the student discount?

We’re very sorry, however this offer is not available to international students at this time. In order to qualify for the student discount, you must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled in an accredited institution in the United States.

But don’t worry! Scribd has something for everybody. If you’re an international student and are not eligible for this promotion, we do still offer a regular 30 day free trial for all new members. For instructions on how to sign up to Scribd, check out our support article, "Signing Up" and if you have any further questions for us, contact our support team at

I paid for the student bundle, why can’t I use my NYT promo code?

Are you already a NYT digital subscriber? If so, that would be the culprit. In order to be eligible for this offer, you must be a current US-based college or university student with no current subscriptions to Scribd or The New York Times. If you’ve already paid for the bundle and are unable to use your NYT digital promo code, you’ll still have a discounted Scribd membership, and can share your NYT promo code with a friend or family member so that it doesn’t go to waste!

How long does the Student Bundle last?

An entire semester (four months)! After four months, your NYT digital subscription will self-cancel. The discounted Scribd subscription will remain active for as long as you'd like to keep reading with us. Your Scribd membership can be cancelled at any time, and we have step-by-step instructions on how to cancel your Scribd premium membership in our support article, “How do I cancel my premium membership?”.

Keep in mind that the discounted student subscription to Scribd is a one-time offer so if you cancel your subscription to Scribd after signing up for the Essential Student Bundle and allow it to expire completely, you won't be able to purchase the Student Bundle again.
