Deleting your account

To delete your Scribd or Slideshare account, you'll need to be signed in, and your subscription has to be canceled and fully expired. Can't sign in, or not sure whether your subscription has expired? Skip to Why you can't see “Delete account” below.

On the Scribd website:

  1. Go to Your account.
  2. Scroll down to More options.
  3. Click “Delete account”. We'll send a verification email.
  4. Open the email and select the link to continue account deletion for Scribd (or Slideshare).
  5. Check both boxes to confirm, then select Delete account.

You'll receive an email confirmation that your Scribd (or Slideshare) account has been successfully deleted.

In the Scribd app:

  1. Open the app and sign in.
  2. Tap Account in the bottom right.
  3. Select Account Information.
  4. Tap Delete account.
  5. Follow the prompts to finish.

An "Account deleted" banner will appear at the bottom of your device's screen, confirming your account has been successfully deleted.

Why you can't see "Delete account”

Delete account shows up under More options on your account page once two things are true:

  • You're signed in to the account you want to delete. Deletion happens from your account, so you'll need to sign in first. If you can't sign in, start with Account recovery. If the email on your account no longer works or you no longer have access, submit a request and we'll take it from there.
  • Your canceled subscription has fully expired. Canceling stops the billing, but you keep access until your paid time runs out. Delete account appears once your account page shows "Expired" next to Your subscription and your plan reads "Basic".

Can I restore a deleted account?

Usually, yes. Start a conversation with our virtual assistant and provide the email address that was on the account, and we'll reactivate it.

If you asked us to erase your data under privacy law, that type of deletion is permanent.

Frequently asked questions

Q: I never got the delete account verification email.

A: Check your spam or junk folder first. If it's not there, you can resend from the confirmation screen. If you've got the wrong email address, you can also update from the same place.

If you got the email, followed the right steps, and deletion still won't go through, submit a request to our support team.

Q: I deleted my account but my uploads still show up in search results. When will they be removed?

A: Uploads from deleted accounts typically come down from Scribd right away, but search engines can take a few days to catch up. If you're continuing to see your uploads in search engines after a couple of weeks, start a conversation with our virtual assistant so we can assist.

Q: I just want to stop paying. Do I need to delete my account?

A: Canceling is all you need. Deleting isn't required to stop the billing, and your Scribd account and everything in it stays as it is in case you ever want to come back. See How to cancel your Scribd subscription instead.
