Not every second can be spent reading a book, but that doesn't mean that you should ever be without a good one. Now you can search the web, answer an email, or simply give your eyes a rest while you relax and listen to an audiobook on Scribd!
There are two ways to find audiobooks on Scribd. When you select the 'Audiobook' option in the left-hand side menu on Scribd's website, you'll see there are a few options for browsing our audiobook content library: an Overview of recommendations and curated lists, Categories where you can narrow your browsing down by specific genres and interests, and of course the Editors' Picks' curated lists. The best way to find a great new audiobook to listen to will be looking through the 'Audiobook' content library on Scribd if you're not quite sure exactly what you'd like to listen to.
You're welcome to search for a specific audiobook as well! If we have it, you'll be able to find it based on the title or the author. Enter your search phrase in the area provided, and when you scroll through the results, you'll first find all of our content libraries matching your search. Select the tab 'Audiobooks' to see all the titles matching your results in the audio format. We have a guide on how to search and browse the Scribd library here if you need some tips and tricks on exploring the vast amount of titles we have available!
When you find an audiobook you're interested in, click on the book cover to be taken to the book's "About" page. You'll find the length of the audiobook directly underneath the author's name as well as who it was narrated by. Beneath the book cover, you'll see the option to Start Listening or you can save it for later by selecting Save for Later.
To start playing the book, select Start Listening and our audiobook player will open!
You'll see the options to move back a chapter, skip forward a chapter, and pause the book at anytime on the audio page. There's also a 'jump' option to fast forward or rewind at a 30-second intervals — just look for the round arrows to the left and right of the pause/play button.
Sometimes you might want to skip ahead or backtrack in a book a bit farther than just a chapter or two. Luckily you can also choose a chapter to jump straight to it. Just open the Table of Contents by clicking the icon in the upper left-hand corner and you'll be able to select any chapter right away!
You can set it up so that the book stops itself by selecting the symbol that looks like a moon found on the lower right-hand side of the audio page. When you select that, the Sleep Timer menu will appear and from there select the length of time you wish for the book to play. Once the timer counts down to zero, the playback will automatically turn off. If you like to read before bed, you can fall asleep to the words being read to you and know that it won't be running all night long.
Prefer your narrator slow down a little, or speed things up? You can control the playback speed by selecting the icon at the lower left which says "1x" or similar, depending on your current selection.
If you run into any issues with an audiobook on our site, please be sure to contact Scribd support -- include the name of book that you are having issues with and describe the trouble in detail. We'll be happy to look into the problem so you can enjoy the audiobook again as quickly as possible.
