Managing your book display options

Everyone has their own reading preferences, which is why we provide display options to change books on Everand to fit your own needs. Everand is a personal library after all, and with that comes a customized reading experience!

Accessing the display options menu

While reading an ebook on the Everand website, the display options menu can be found by locating the Aa symbol in the upper right corner. In the app, the display options are found in the T symbol located in the upper right corner and are hidden while you're actively reading. Just tap your device’s screen once from any page in a book and the icon will reappear.

Display options may not be available for all books, depending on how the book is formatted. Additionally, the display options offered through the Everand website may differ from those offered in the app.

Changing the font style

You can use the display options menu to choose between font styles. The options of Serif or Sans Serif are available on the Everand website, while our app provides a handful of fonts to select from.

To apply a different font or font style:

  1. Open the display options menu
  2. Pick the font or font style desired
    • Using the Everand website
      • Click on Sans Serif or Serif; your font style selection will appear highlighted in a different color
    • Using the Everand app
      • Open the drop-down menu below the Font heading
  3. Tap on your preferred font; a checkmark will appear to the right of your selection
  4. Click or tap outside of the display options menu to continue reading with your font selection applied

Changing the font size

Do you need your book’s font to appear larger or smaller? We've got this covered with the wide range of font sizes available.

To change your book’s font size:

  1. Open the display options menu
  2. Click or tap on the - or + symbol located on the left and right of the Aa or T
    • The sizing symbols are located in the second row of the display options menu on the Everand website and under the Font Size heading on the Everand app
  3. The font of the book will increase or decrease in size with each click or tap
  4. When you’ve reached your desired font size, click or tap outside of the display options menu to continue reading in the applied size

To get a closer look within books where the font size cannot be adjusted, you can use a reverse-pinch gesture on a mouse trackpad (or your device’s screen when using the Everand app) to zoom in on text.

Changing the theme

You can swap out the theme for your book to adjust the color of both the text and page background. The following themes are available:

  • A white page with black letters (Day Theme)
  • A sepia page with dark brown letters (Sepia Theme)
  • A black page with light gray letters (Night Theme)
  • A charcoal gray page with light gray letters (app only)

To change your book’s theme:

  1. Open the display options menu
  2. Click or tap the box containing your desired theme
    • Themes are located in the first row of the display options menu on the Everand website and under the Theme heading on the Everand app
  3. The box around your selected theme will appear highlighted in a different color
  4. Click or tap outside of the display options menu to continue reading with your selected theme applied

Changing the scrolling direction

You can change the page layout to either flip through pages left and right much like a book, or up and down as you might scroll a website.

To change your scrolling direction:

  1. Open the display options menu
  2. Click or tap on the box containing your desired scrolling option: horizontal scrolling or vertical scrolling
  3. The box around your selected scrolling direction will be highlighted
  4. Click or tap outside of the display options menu to continue reading with your scrolling direction selection applied

Changing the alignment

You can alter the alignment of how text appears in your book to appear as either justified or with no justification.

To change your text alignment:

  1. Open the display options menu
  2. Click or tap on the box containing your desired text alignment
    • Text alignment options are located in the fourth row of the display options menu on the Everand website and under the Alignment heading on the Everand app
  3. The box around your selected text alignment will appear highlighted in a different color
  4. Click or tap outside of the display options menu to continue reading in your applied alignment

Changing the line spacing

If you need to increase the spacing between lines of text in a book, we have three different spacing options available for use within the Everand app.

To change your line spacing:

  1. Open the display options menu on the Everand app
  2. Locate the Line Spacing heading on the second row of the menu
  3. Tap on your preferred line spacing; the amount of spacing in each option increases from left to right
  4. The box around your selected line spacing will appear highlighted in a different color
  5. Tap outside of the display options menu to continue reading in your applied line spacing

Changing the brightness

While the option to change a book’s brightness isn’t part of the display options menu on the Everand website, this is something you can adjust when reading a book through the Everand app.

To adjust your book’s brightness:

  1. Open the display options menu on the Everand app
  2. Locate the Brightness heading at the bottom of the menu
  3. Hold your finger on the slider dot and drag it left to decrease your brightness or right to increase your brightness
  4. Tap outside of the display options menu to continue reading in your selected brightness level

Changing the brightness through the Everand app will also adjust your device’s local brightness settings to match.
