Why has the price of audiobook credits changed?

You may have noticed that we recently made a change in the price of additional audiobook credits, from $8.99 to $12.99 each.

At Scribd, our goal is to be the monthly subscription service that connects readers to the content that matters to them. Last October, we started offering Monthly audiobooks to those who wanted to purchase more audiobooks than our monthly subscription provided.

To keep it simple, we charged only $8.99 per additional Monthly audiobook. After reviewing the last 9 months of this program, we saw that maintaining this price would make it difficult for us to continue offering audiobooks at all.

For this reason, as of Monday, September 19, 2016 the cost of an additional Monthly audiobook will increase to $12.99. While we never enjoy increasing our prices, we feel this price is very competitive, and we would rather do so than remove the option to purchase an additional Monthly Audiobook all together. You will not lose access to any Monthly Audiobook purchased before this date.

As always, we’re actively working with audiobook publishers to identify ways to make audiobooks more economical so we can bring more audiobook listens to your Scribd monthly membership. We hope you’ll check out our Unlimited Audiobooks promotion, which offers access to 5,000 popular audiobooks without the use of a Monthly Audiobook credits through September 30.

Thank you for your continued support. We welcome your feedback - please don’t hesitate to reach out at support@scribd.com.

If I cancel my membership, can I keep the books that I used credits to purchase? What if I pay $12.99 for a credit? Can I keep that book? Or am I paying $12.99 on top of the $8.99/month to just "borrow" a book temporarily. That would mean I paid for the book but can't keep it? Sometimes the book may even be worth less than than $12.99
