A Legacy plan is any Everand subscription created before the current Standard, Plus, and Deluxe plans rolled out. If you haven't switched to one of those plans, you're on a Legacy plan. The key differences: Legacy plans don't use unlocks, don't include the expanded catalog of bestselling and new release books, and manage access through usage-based limits instead of a predictable number of books you can unlock each month.
Nothing has changed on your end — your plan is still active, your billing is the same, and you can keep using Everand exactly the way you have been.
Here's how Legacy plans work and how they compare to the current Standard, Plus, and Deluxe plans.
What your Legacy plan includes
Legacy plans work differently from current plans. The key differences:
No unlocks. Legacy plans don't use the unlock system. Your access to the catalog is based on your subscription, not a monthly unlock count.
Bundled access. If you subscribed before November 10, 2025, your plan may include access to Everand, Scribd, and Slideshare in a single subscription.
Usage-based access. With a Legacy plan, you may occasionally encounter limits on certain books based on your recent reading or listening activity. This is different from the unlock system, where your monthly allocation is set by your plan tier.
If you're on a Legacy annual plan
Some Legacy subscribers are on annual billing rather than monthly. Here's what you need to know.
Annual plans are no longer available for new purchases. We don't currently sell annual subscriptions. If you already have one, it's yours to keep.
You can keep your annual billing if you switch to a current plan. When you migrate from a Legacy annual plan to Standard, Plus, or Deluxe, you can stay on annual billing.
If you're on an annual current plan, you can't switch to monthly without canceling. Once you've migrated to a current plan (Standard, Plus, or Deluxe) on annual billing, the only way to move to monthly is to cancel and resubscribe.
Canceling an annual plan takes effect on your billing date. You'll keep access until the end of the period you've already paid for.
Should I switch to a current plan?
That's completely up to you. Here are some things to weigh:
Reasons you might want to switch:
- You want a predictable number of books you can unlock each month (1, 3, or 5 unlocks depending on the plan).
- You want access to the 150K+ newly added bestselling and new release books that came with the expanded catalog.
If you decide to switch
You can switch to Standard, Plus, or Deluxe in your account settings (select "View all plans"). Here's what to expect:
- The switch is permanent. You can't go back to your Legacy plan after switching.
- You'll get your full unlock allocation immediately — 1, 3, or 5 depending on the plan you choose.
- Your payment will be prorated. You'll pay the difference between what you've already paid for the current billing cycle and the new plan price.
- Books you've already read will be unlocked when you transition. Books you haven't started will require an unlock to access.
- You'll lose bundled access to Scribd and Slideshare. Those products will require separate subscriptions.
A note on pausing vs. canceling
Pausing your subscription keeps your Legacy plan intact — your plan, billing, and bundled access all stay the same when you resume. Canceling means your Legacy plan is gone permanently. If you resubscribe later, you'll be on a current plan with unlocks.
Frequently asked questions
Q: I don't recognize the plan I'm on. What happened?
A: If you signed up before Everand's current plans launched, you're likely on a Legacy plan. It still works — your billing and access haven't changed. Legacy plans don't use unlocks and may include bundled access to Scribd and Slideshare.
Q: I'm on a Legacy plan. What happens if I switch?
A: You'll get your full unlock allocation right away (1, 3, or 5 depending on the plan you choose). Your payment for the current billing cycle will prorate. But the switch is permanent — you won't be able to go back to your Legacy plan, and you'll lose bundled access to Scribd and Slideshare.
Q: Can I keep my Legacy plan?
A: Yes, as long as you keep your subscription active. But if you cancel, your Legacy plan is gone for good — resubscribing will put you on a current plan.
Q: I paused my Legacy plan. Is it still a Legacy plan when I come back?
A: Yes. Pausing preserves your Legacy plan. When you resume, everything picks up where it left off — same plan, same billing, same bundled access.
Q: I'm on a Legacy annual plan. What are my options?
A: You can keep your annual billing as-is, or migrate to a current plan (Standard, Plus, or Deluxe) and keep your annual billing. Just know that once you're on a current plan with annual billing, the only way to switch to monthly is to cancel and resubscribe.
Q: Why can't I access certain books on my Legacy plan? It feels like I'm being limited.
A: Legacy plans use usage-based access instead of a fixed monthly count of books. This means that after a period of heavy reading or listening, some books may temporarily become unavailable. If you'd prefer a predictable allocation each month, switching to a current plan (Standard, Plus, or Deluxe) gives you a set number of unlocks with no usage-based limits.
