1.0 About the California Privacy Notice

Everand™, Scribd®, and Slideshare® are brands or products of Scribd, Inc. (the “Company,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). This PRIVACY NOTICE FOR CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS (“California Privacy Notice,” or “Privacy Notice”) supplements our Global Privacy Policy (https://scribd.com/privacy) and applies solely to visitors, users, and other California residents (“consumers” or “you”) when you visit our Sites, download and use our Apps, or subscribe to receive any products and Services that we provide.

4.0 Your Rights & Choices

The CCPA provides you (a California Consumer) with specific rights regarding Personal Information. California residents have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment by us for the exercise of the rights conferred by the CCPA.

You can exercise your California rights through our Privacy Rights Request form. You may only make a verifiable Consumer request for access or data portability twice within a 12-month period.

Your Choices Regarding “Selling” and “Sharing”

We may disclose elements of your Personal Information in order to provide you with promotions and opportunities that may be of interest to you, which may be considered a “share” or “sale” under the CCPA. Under the CCPA, “sale” or “share” may also include allowing others to “collect” certain information, such as IP address, and/or browsing behavior, through cookies and similar technologies, to deliver targeted advertising.

We do not knowingly sell the Personal Information of Minors without affirmative authorization as required by applicable law. We do not have actual knowledge that we sell the Personal Information of Minors.

You may opt-out of our use or disclosure of your information for such purposes that are considered a “sale” or “share” under the CCPA by clicking “Your Privacy Choices” (or “Cookie Preferences” in the EU) on our website.

Right to Limit

The CCPA allows you to limit the use or disclosure of your “sensitive personal information” (as defined in the CCPA) if your sensitive personal information is used for certain purposes. Please note that we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information other than for business purposes for which you cannot opt out under the CCPA.

California “Shine the Light” Disclosure

The California “Shine the Light” law permits users who are California residents to request and obtain from us once a year, free of charge, a list of the third parties to whom we have disclosed their personal information (as defined by such law) (if any) for their direct marketing purposes in the prior calendar year, as well as the type of personal information disclosed to those parties for such purposes. We do not disclose such information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. If we do so in the future, we will only do so with a) your affirmative agreement or b) you can prevent that information from being disclosed  by visiting Your Privacy Choices and following the instructions there.

5.0 Retention

We retain the information that we receive as described in this Privacy Policy as long as we determine is necessary to fulfill the purpose(s) for which it was collected, provide our products and services, resolve disputes, establish legal defenses, conduct audits, pursue legitimate business purposes, enforce our agreements, and comply with applicable laws. Our retention is based upon the amount, nature and sensitivity of the information, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure of the information, the purposes for which we process the information, applicable legal requirements, and our legitimate interests. The purposes for which we process information may dictate different retention periods for the same types of information.
